Hi my name is Nicky, I was born and raised in South Africa – I consider myself an African. I originally studied Journalism, from there I moved into the corporate world where I have done marketing, advertising, copy writing, sales and managing the products that I was in charge of.

I started taking photographs on field trips as a child with a point and shoot disposable camera. I was very intrigued from an early age as to how the picture was captured then developed onto photographic paper.

Since then my passion for photography has gone into over-drive, I have bought numerous reference books on photography and more equipment. I have attended six part time courses at the National College of Photography (www.photocollege.co.za) Intermediate, Dynamic, Expressive and Photoshop, Photoshop Advanced as well as Fine art photography. I have also completed my Diploma and Advanced Diploma with Institute of Professional Photography which is accredited by NCFE at level 4. http://www.inst.org/photography-courses/index.php. I am currently studying field guiding/ Game ranging course through the wildlife campus, while attending numerous wildlife workshops.

Photography is as much a science as it is an art and the more I learn, the more I can accurately express what I am trying to convey in my photographs.

One of the coolest things I have done, is attended a photographic workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico with Jim Richardson from National Geographic through the Santa FE photographic workshops. I’ve also been fortunate to travel to incredible destinations in Africa – Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and Zanzibar where I was able to share some special moments through my photography and writing. I have also visited Paris, New York, San Francisco, Hawiian Islands, Yosemite, Sweden and Mauritius.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

What inspires me is Mother Nature in all her glory and essentially trying to capture her beauty to inspire the rest of the world, saying: Hey, please start caring about all wildlife.
